QUESTION OF THE WEEK, 10-29-07

Are you a working mommy or do you stay at home with your kids? Be specific! Are you full time or part time? Does your husband work full time too? Are you on the same shifts? What do you do for childcare? What is your long term plan?

What do you find to be the advantages/disadvantages of your situation?

I'm part-time at my job--Monday Tuesday Thursday and home the rest of the time. We have a nanny who comes to our house which is the best situation for us. I'm not sure I would be able to not work doing SOMETHING outside the house, although I would be thrilled to find a job I enjoyed more. I think it's great to have Mom as a full-time caregiver but children also learn different things from other adults, so I think that consistent caregivers other than parents can be a benefit to kids.

Being teachers, my husband and I feel like we already work "part time", having so much time off throughout the year. Gavin goes to a small in-home daycare run by a good family friend. He loves it and we do, too. He gets to play with his 4 buddies everyday and has a great time. He sleeps for 3 hours a day at "Miss Donna's", which makes me feel like I'm not really leaving him "all day"-- he plays for a few hours, eats lunch then takes his nap, and is picked up before 3:30. This has worked out wondefully for our family :)
