Question of the week!

Describe a typical day?

It is always fun to hear what other people do throughout their day. Obviously, everyday is different when you have kids but on average, what does a typical day look like for you? When posting, think about activities, t.v. shows, regular errands, bedtime routines, etc.

Jack's bedtime routine comes to my mind. He gets his bath between 6:30-7 range and after that has a bottle of milk and I read him a book. Before we put him in his crib around 7:30-8 he needs to have us turn on his nightlight, his fan and his music cd. He also needs to kiss everyone good night (sometimes more than once!!)It is so sweet that he goes right to sleep and it seems to work since he sleeps until 7 the next morning!

The one thing I've always been firm about is nap time. I make it a priority to always be home at nap time so my kids get all the rest they need. For the past few years, Gavin has napped from 1-4 and Evan currently sleeps all day! When my babies are newborns, I try to stay home lots so that they get lots of uninterrupted sleep, nice and cozy in their beds instead of being carted around sleeeping in their babycarriers. Other than naptimes, our days don't have lots of other structure besides lunch before nap, then a quick TV show with milk, a book or two, then nap time.

We are usually hanging out at home most days. We usually have one activity day (soccer, gymnastics or whatever our current interest is..), one park day, and one errand day. Other then that, we are homebodies! It is very hard to go out about with this trio! :) I enjoy our days at home and get sad when I think about the time that I won't be able to spend my days with my guys! Our days are usually centered around naps and food! These boys like to eat and sleep...just like their mom!! ha ha! :) Jake and Ben take one long nap and Luke still takes two naps. Our days are very similar yet NEVER boring! :)Danielle

I am only home with her two days a week but on those days we usually run errands in the morning, especially grocery shopping on wednesdays, then lunch and playing until 1:30 or 2 when I leave her in her room for a theoretical nap...she reads in beds and sometimes falls asleep, sometimes not. it depends. then after that we go to the park or play at the neighbors. Not sure what life will be like in a few weeks with a newborn too!?

Our "schedule" is pretty similar to Danielle's. When I only had one, I made it a point to get out of the house nearly every day because she would bounce off the walls staying home - so I would usually spread out my errands throughout the week. But with 2 now it seems like a lot more effort/coordination to get out the door so we end up staying at home a couple days a week - which isn't so bad with the warm weather since we can get out in the backyard or walk to the park. The other days we do errands/groceries/farmers market or some sort of activity or playdate for my oldest.

My biggest challenge is getting house stuff done during the day...I usually resort to all laundry/cleaning/etc. till after they go to bed and then is seems like it's 11pm, sometimes later, before I get a chance to really relax? And *if* I can get them to nap at the same time, it usually only lasts 30min or so before one or the other is up again, so I quickly return phone calls or often need that shut-eye myself in order to make it up to midnight again that evening. It's a vicious cycle! Once my baby is a little older hopefully I can leave the girls alone for 5 minutes instead of having to constantly supervise as I do now, and hopefully I will then be able to accomplish more during the day. If not, I've resorted to the fact that my house will be a mess for the next few years, and I'll resume cleaning once they hit middle school or so :) Thankfully I have an understanding husband who seems happy as long as there's food on the table every evening.

I seriously could not explain to anyone what I "do" all day, yet I feel like I'm constantly "do-ing"?!!

Christina, I loved your post! I have also given up on the "clean house!" There is just so little time for that kind of stuff! Oh well! :)
