Question of the week!

Where do you grocery shop? Do you plan your meals before your grocery shop? What is your strategy?

Usually Kroger or Meijer, and ALWAYS more than once a week. I am just not able to plan 7 main dishes plus sides plus lunches in one trip. I hate going so often, and always spend more money than i should, but i can't get around it.

My only really good tip I've always done is to lay your list out in the order of the store, instead of vertical "list" form. Makes it easy to see if you have missed anything. My mom always did it and I think it's a great organizer idea!

I usually shop at Hillers. They have a great deli/seafood/butcher section. There produce is also always high quality...except I always seem to go on "green banana" days!

I do plan on what I "hope" to make for the week... although schedules change at times. I also write my shopping list in the order of the store to make it easier if I forget something. However, I sometimes find I forget the list in the car and I am too lazy to go back out and get it!!

My tip- see what the store offers your kids! Sometimes I have to take Kara with me... Hillers really accomodates kids. The flower dept. will give them a balloon which is always good for entertaining... and the bakery gives a free cookie.. which she has to split with Mom!

For being as organized as I am in other areas of my life, I am kind of a disaster when it comes to grocery shopping :(
I go to Busch's (lots of great organic options), Trader Joe's, and Sam's Club. I generally do not have a plan, which probably causes me to spend way more money then necessary.
I'm also going to start to get my meat from Creswick Farms for healthier meat options for my family.
Unfortunately, I have no good tips to offer in this area! I need help myself!-Amy

I also need to work on my planning. I usally can plan for one new meal a week and then the rest are our traditional favs.

I rotate between Kroger, Trader Joes and Whole foods. If we could afford it, I would always shop at W.F. Too expensive...plus it doesn't cater to my hubby's nutritional needs: pop, sugar cereals, and other fun foods! :) :)

I usually shop at Kroger, Trader Joes, and Whole Foods. I try (key word) to go to the grocery store every Sunday, so I have everything I need for the week.

I've recently started looking online for recipes and we try between 2-3 new meals a week. And with leftovers and our staple weekly meals, it gets me through the week.

I too, make a grocery list and if it's not on my list I will forget everything I need to purchase. I try to group my items according to the store layout, however that does't always work. But since I go weekly my list is not that intense.

I now love planning ahead, b/c I'm not thinking...oh crap what's for dinner tonight???

Nic, You have inspired me lately with your super organization in the meal department! What websites do you use for your recipes?

For those of you who shop at whole foods- have you ever looked at their website? They have a GREAT recipe section... and it is nicely divided into categories... you should check it out!
