Question of the Week, 2-25-08

What is your favorite tip on organizing? For example, maybe you have a creative way to organize your photos or memorabilia. Or perhaps you have an efficient way to do your laundry or dishes. Maybe you can give a tip on organizing junk drawers or closets. Be creative! Let us know helpful ways you organize some aspect of your life :) This is what we will be discussing at this week's meeting, but posting your ideas here will save us time in posting them later and will be helpful to others...
Have a great week!

I write my grocery lists in the order of the store, not in a list form....so all the fruits I need are grouped together on the paper sideways in the area where the fruit would be in the grocery store. It makes it easier to see instantly what I need in which aisle and prevents backtracking. My mom always did this and I swore I would never know a grocery store layout by heart but now that I'm the mom, I sure do!

Oh my gosh, Kel! I have always said I should invent a pad of paper set up like the grocery store, with the aisle items written at the top of columns so people could list what they needed under each aisle. I guess you already do my great invention :) I love it!

As for how I organize, I am obsessed with my laundry room, and have a long shelf above my washer and dryer. It is long enough for 4 big laundry baskets, which I keep on the shelves. When someone has dirty laundry, they put it in the correct basket- one for "colds", one for "warms", one for "towels" and one for "whites." This way my laundry is already sorted and I know to do a load when a basket is full.

I would buy your grocery note pad Amy! :)

I created a binder for our baby-sitters. Currently, we only have our family baby-sit the boys but it still makes me feel at ease knowing I have the baby-sitting bible available for our family. I am positive that our parents think we are being a little over cautious but it makes me feel better. So heres the scoop:

It is just a plain white binder that is divided into several sections. The sections are as follow:

1. Family Contacts- This section has every phone number they would ever need. From our cell phone and work numbers, pediatrician's number, poison control, all of the grandparents information, etc.

2. Feedings- Meal suggestions and tips.

3. Schedules- Nap, snack, medication, and meal scheduels. Misc. tips and suggestions to make the day easier.

4. First Aid- Basic first aid tips and locations of important first aid equipment.

5. Illness- Medication and temperature guidelines.

6. Travel Information and Authorizations- If we are traveling, I list all of our travel plans. I also leave a form that gives our parents authorization to give medical consent for our children while we are gone, God for bid, they need be taken to the hospital and need treatment. I also leave an insurance card for them too.

Yea..I know, this is a bit much! :) It makes me feel much better to have the baby-sitter bible! Plus, once you do it, it is always ready to go you may just have to update here and there.
