Educational NMF Outing!
Several NMF members went to a seminar this weekend presented by A Touch Of Life Chiropractors. Mary Tocco was the main speaker. She was outstanding!!!!
The seminar covered a few of the following topics:
1) Vaccines: Mary Tocco gave a detailed presentation on what is in vaccines, how they are manufactured and the risks involved with various shots. She provided websites for further information- http://www.momvaccines.org/, http://www.childhoodshots.com/, http://www.novaccine.com/.
2) Mary also talked about how you can provide the best possible environment for your child. Some suggestions she had were to buy organic food, get the toxins out of your home (cleaning products,) detox your family, be informed and cautious when it comes to vaccinating, breastfeed your babies, consider non-traumatic births, consider being seen by chiropractors, consider using a holistic approach to treating illness vs. being so quick to medicate, etc., etc.
3) Mary talked about treating illness with a holistic approach. For example-
-Pink Eye, put one drop of honey in the infected eye
-Rashes, Use chamomile or take an oatmeal bath
-Gas, Apple cider vinegar
-Cuts & Scratches, witch hazel
-Coughing, honey and lemon juice
4) Mary gave lots of interesting statistics on vaccines. For example:
1950: children got 3 shots at the age of 5
1983: 10 vaccines
2002: 23 vaccines
2007: 36 vaccines!!!
Please know this isn't a word for word recap of the seminar, just a simple overview. There will be some handouts provided for all members who attend the April NMF meeting. If you would like more info., you can contact Maria, Nicole, Christine or Danielle.
FYI) Mary will be coming back to the area in September for another seminar if you are interested.
REMINDER: This Thursday is our April NMF meeting. We will be watching "The Business of Being Born" documentary and be discussing it. By the way, Mary couldn't say enough wonderful things about this film! :) Also, we are going to be doing some spring cleaning! For our gift swap, be sure to bring some old magazines that other NMF members might enjoy reading. We are also collecting travel size toiletries for First Step Women's Shelter. There will be a $5.00 meeting fee for this gathering so be sure to bring cash. Check the evite for more details! :)
