tough to do a charity event that is meaningful to a toddler, but every year we "adopt-a-family" through our church to buy Christmas presents for. I always try to select a family with kids my kids' ages, and then I take Charlotte shopping with me to help pick out toys/clothes from their wish list, explaining who we're shopping for and and why 'tis better to give than receive! (yea right says a toddler :) She didn't really get it last year but I think she will now.
I we are going to make it a tradition to go visit the NICU nurses and bring them some treats from the boys...showing our appreciation for all they do for sweet little preemies. I think we are going to make a family trip on Thanksgiving day. I always felt bad for the nurses they had to work on the holidays. Not sure if the boys will get it....I don't think it hurts to get them involved early.
I also want to make puppy chow or christmas cookies and deliver them to our neighbors. My goal is to show them how good it feels to GIVE!! I know they love to receive...thats for sure!
I would love to hear about other people's traditions! :)

YIKES!!! How do I edit my post? Sorry about all of the typos! Can you tell I am exhausted?? :)
Danielle
you can't edit - hence the first deleted post that contained all my typos :) don't worry - must of us are typing with one hand or 1/2 a brain most times!
We always adopt a family through church to buy for. Each year, I think this gets a little more meaningful for Gavin, which is awesome to see. This year, we'll have Gavin take some of the money out of his piggy bank to buy one of the gifts. We've been talking about it, and he is actually excited about getting to spend some of his money for someone else :)
Our Thanksgiving tradition is that Gavin and I wake up early and bake pumpkin and banana bread and "puppy chow"- then Serge and I spend the day cooking the whole Thnaksgiving Feast. We put up our Christmas tree and decorate throughout the day, then enjoy a calm, peaceful famiy dinner together. We enjoy not going anywhere and making it a family day with just us. Then, any of our family and/or friends are welcome to come over in the evening for dessert and cocktails. It's a fun day for us, and I love the challenge/mission of doing the whole dinner by ourselves. It's fun teamwork :)
My girls love to participate in the Operation Christmas Child..where they wrap a shoe box in Xmas paper and then fill it with something a child their age would need..socks,books,toys,etc...and then they will give it out at our local mission center in our city. They love to see the child's face when they see what they gave them. Very heartwarming!!
I think someone posted about this last year but can't remember who? elfontheshelf.com --check it out! I bought the set at Nordstrom this weekend and think it will be a fun family tradition that may just make mom & dad's lives easier for the last few weeks of the year :)
